NIST Finalizes IR 8547: Quantum-Vulnerable Public Key Algorithms Deprecated After 2030, Disallowed After 2035

NIST published the final IR 8547, Transition to Post-Quantum Cryptography Standards, on October 27, 2026. RSA, ECDSA, EdDSA, Diffie-Hellman and elliptic curve key agreement at 112 bits of security are deprecated after 2030 and disallowed under NIST standards after 2035, with ML-KEM-768 the recommended default for key establishment. Vendors selling into Canadian utilities, carriers and governments will now be measured against a final NIST schedule that lines up with Canada's ITSM.40.001 dates.

Why this matters for your infrastructure

Every advance in quantum computing shortens the window for migrating long lived infrastructure off quantum-vulnerable encryption, and data captured today can be decrypted later. Fabric Networks helps energy, government, telecom and community networks move to quantum-safe encryption on their own timeline, not an adversary's.
