NATO Quantum Technology Roadmap Sets Dates: Quantum-Resilient Comms Pilot Brussels to Mons by End of 2027

NATO published its Quantum Technology Roadmap on September 29, 2026, putting dates against the quantum strategy it adopted in 2023. On the security side it schedules a NATO Industrial Advisory Group study on industry readiness for quantum-resistant cryptographic solutions in Q2 2027, an updated action plan on the quantum threat to cryptography in Q3 2027, and the Quantum Zero Beacon pilot, a quantum-resilient communications link between NATO headquarters in Brussels and SHAPE in Mons, by Q4 2027, alongside quantum sensing sea trials in 2026 and 2027 and an alliance standards roadmap by Q3 2029. The public summary gives no budget, architecture or rollout commitment beyond the pilots. For Canadian operators the signal is that allied procurement will start asking suppliers about quantum-resistant cryptography on a 2027 timetable.

Why this matters for your infrastructure

Every advance in quantum computing shortens the window for migrating long lived infrastructure off quantum-vulnerable encryption, and data captured today can be decrypted later. Fabric Networks helps energy, government, telecom and community networks move to quantum-safe encryption on their own timeline, not an adversary's.
