QUANTUM THREAT INTELLIGENCE

Alice & Bob Claims RSA-2048 Could Fall to 22,593 Cat Qubits in Three Days, 40 Times Fewer Than 2025 Estimate

A preprint from the French cat qubit company Alice & Bob estimates that Shor's algorithm on fault tolerant cat qubits would need 22,593 physical qubits and about 3.14 days to factor RSA-2048, roughly 40 times fewer qubits than the 2025 Google estimate. These are resource projections, not a demonstrated attack, and the hardware does not exist yet. For Canadian infrastructure operators the point is the direction: each new estimate shortens the assumed runway for data recorded today under RSA and elliptic curve keys.

Why this matters for your infrastructure

Every advance in quantum computing shortens the window for migrating long lived infrastructure off quantum-vulnerable encryption, and data captured today can be decrypted later. Fabric Networks helps energy, government, telecom and community networks move to quantum-safe encryption on their own timeline, not an adversary's.
