Quantum Corridor, Ciena and Toshiba Report 1.6 Tb/s Quantum-Safe Optical Encryption on a Live Network

Ciena reports that Quantum Corridor, Ciena and Toshiba validated 1.6 Tb/s of encrypted connectivity combining post-quantum algorithms with quantum key distribution on Quantum Corridor's live commercial network between Chicago and Hammond, Indiana, using Ciena WaveLogic 6 Extreme encryption and Toshiba QKD servers. The companies describe it as a world first; it is a trial on a production network rather than a general release. For fibre operators the point is that transport layer encryption can be made quantum-safe on optical gear already in service, without replacing the network.

Why this matters for your infrastructure

Every advance in quantum computing shortens the window for migrating long lived infrastructure off quantum-vulnerable encryption, and data captured today can be decrypted later. Fabric Networks helps energy, government, telecom and community networks move to quantum-safe encryption on their own timeline, not an adversary's.
